The Ensemble Cast of Guillermo del Toro's SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK Has Been Revealed

With production on the Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark to start this week, the ensemble cast has been revealed. That cast consists of Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Austin Abrams (Brad’s Status), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Brad’s Status) and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make it Pop).

They will join the previously cast Zoe Colletti who takes on the lead role of a character named Stella. Stella is "a young girl still haunted by her mother’s disappearance on Halloween night — an incident that she suspects her father knows more about than he lets on. Years later, Stella and her friends are involved in a Halloween prank gone wrong. But are they really at fault, or was it the work of a vengeful spirit — a female ghost who uses her scary stories to come after the teens when they begin to investigate the disappearance of several children?"

The story for the film is said to follow "a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town."

André Øvredal is directing the film from a script co-written by del Toro. When talking about the casting, Øvredal said:

"We spent months searching for and assembling the perfect group of actors to help us realize the most terrifying adaptation that we could conceive."

Del Toro added:

"I am honored to support Andre’s vision and, with our partners, to bring the incredible world of ‘Scary Stories’ to the screen."

I'm pretty excited about this project! It was previously revealed that the film features several references to the memorable stories from the book series. A couple of the references mentioned include the human scarecrow from the story "Harold" and the story about a girl with a pimple on her face that ended up being the result of a spider laying eggs in her cheek, "The Red Spot."

What are your thoughts on this film project? Are you looking forward to it?
