THE EXORCIST Star Linda Blair Says She Hasn't Been Asked to Return to the New Trilogy
Earlier this week we learned that the David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist project will be a sequel trilogy and that Ellen Burstyn, who received an Oscar nomination for her performance in 1973’s original Exorcist, is returning to the franchise. Leslie Odom Jr. (One Night in Miami) is also set to star.
Burstyn played Regan’s mom in the original film and a lot of fans have been wondering if that means Linda Blair will return to reprise her role. Well, according to the actress, she’s currently not involved with the project as no one has had any discussion with her about the possibility of returning.
She shared the following statement on Twitter, "To all my fans asking about my involvement in the new Exorcist reboot, as of now there has not been any discussions about me participating or reprising my role. I wish all those involved the best and I appreciate the loyalty and passion the fans have for The Exorcist and my character."
Just because she has been asked to join the project yet, doesn’t mean she won’t eventually be asked. There may be plans to bring her back, but there may not. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out as development on the film trilogy continues. I’d like to see Blair come back, but who knows what they are planning for her character.
Would you like to see Linda Blair return as Regan? How do you think they will handle the character in this upcoming sequel trilogy?
