THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER Will Bring Back Characters From Some of the Earliest Marvel Movies

Thanks to The Falcon and The Winter Solider screenwriter Derek Kolstad, we’ve learned something new and interesting about the upcoming Disney+ Marvel series. We know many of the main characters that are coming back for the series including Sam Wilson/ The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl), and Agent 13/Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp). But, we’re going to be seeing even more familiar faces that have yet to be revealed.

During an interview with Script Apart podcast, Kolstad revealed that some of these familiar faces will come from Marvel’s earliest films, explaining:

“There are characters from the earliest Marvel movies that are coming back. They’re layering them in and reinventing them in such a way that it’s going to shift the storytelling structure.”

Obviously, he’s not going to share who these characters are, but I’m looking forward to finding out who these characters are and how they’ve been reinvented for the series and the story that it tells. Kolstad goes on to talk about the series and his excitement for it saying:

“I can tell you very little – but I’ll tell you this… they got hit by Covid but they’re finishing up finally. That’s going to be fucking cool. I’m honoured and I’m proud at where that came to be.

“Growing up, everyone would give someone like Robin shit but he’s pretty badass… you’re taking secondary characters and putting them in primary roles and they’re cooler, they’re more interesting. There is more humanity, there is more longing, more suffering, more coming to grips with what they are.”

Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes are the mismatched pair of military vets and former partners of Captain America “who team up for a global adventure that will test their survival skills — as well as their patience.”

The series also stars Wyatt Russell who takes on the role of the new Captain America/U.S. Agent, and it looks like he’s going to be an asshole in the series. As for Baron Zemo, it’s been rumored that he might be involved with some sort of massive viral threat. It’s been speculated that this viral threat could come from Virus X, the Madbomb, or something else that will put the population in grave danger.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is directed by Kari Skogland, and Malcolm Spellman is the head writer. The series will premiere on Disney+ sometime next year in 2021.

What character from the early Marvel films do you think we’ll see come back for The Falcon and The Winter Solider?
