THE FAMILY STONE Sequel Now Titled THE FAMILIES STONE and the Returning Cast Is Announced
Searchlight has revealed that the sequel to the holiday favorite The Family Stone will officially be called The Families Stone.
With the title announcement, the studio also revealed in the Instagram post below, the returning cast includes Rachel McAdams as Amy Stone, Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith Morton, Claire Danes (Julie Morton), Dermot Mulroney (Everett Stone), Craig T. Nelson (Kelly Stone), Luke Wilson (Ben Stone), Tyrone Giordano (Thad Stone), Elizabeth Reaser (Susannah Stone), Paul Schneider (Brad Stevenson) and Brian White (Patrick Thomas).
Diane Keaton, whose presence would have already been missed in the sequel, after her character’s death in the first film, will be missed even more after her death last year at the age of 79.
The sequel’s synopsis from Searchlight reads: “Twenty years after their mother’s passing, the Stone family reunites for Christmas only to face the season’s biggest surprise: their father has unexpectedly invited the woman he’s fallen in love with to meet the family.”
I love this original movie so much. It is a holiday must watch for me, and despite the messiness and hurt feelings amid the imperfect characters, the story just speaks to a family going through an extremely difficult season of life who love each other and put everything aside to show up for one another at the end of the day.
I am looking forward to watching this new movie and adding it to my seasonal watchlist. The sequel is still very early in its process, so we may be looking at a 2028 release, but as always, we will keep you updated.
