THE FANTASTIC FOUR Deleted Scene Shows The Thing Rocking a “Snazzy” Birthday Sweater
Marvel fans just got another peek at what didn’t make it into The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and this one is all about Ben Grimm’s softer side. A newly released deleted scene, titled “Birthday Sweater,” shines the spotlight on Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s The Thing in a quiet moment with Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm.
In the clip, Ben and H.E.R.B.I.E. are doing some last-minute checks on the Excelsior spacecraft when Sue drops in to see how he’s holding up. He’s wearing what he proudly calls a “snazzy” birthday sweater, but there’s a weight behind his rocky exterior. Considering the tragedy tied to the team’s last spaceflight, it’s not hard to see why he looks a little down.
The sequence features unfinished VFX for The Thing, giving fans an intriguing look at how the Ever-Lovin’ Blue-Eyed hero is brought to life before the final polish.
It’s the third deleted scene unveiled from First Steps, following one that introduced Sue’s meeting with Mole Man in Subterranea and another that showed her and Reed Richards tenderly caring for baby Franklin.
Like the others, this sweater scene doesn’t drastically change the story, but it does add some texture to the character dynamics. It’s especially disappointing that Harvey Elder’s moments with the Invisible Woman didn’t make the cut, as their interplay could have added another interesting layer to the film.
