THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS Director Says Reed Richards Is "The Guy Who's Leading The Avengers"

The Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman recently shared an interesting bit of news that is sure to get fans talking about about the future of Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

In an interview with Variety, Shakman discussed the journey of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and teased his role in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, and how he will be leading the Avengers.

Shakman’s comments highlight Reed’s transformation, saying, “He goes from being the nerdy scientist who’s locked away in the lab, to the husband and the father who’d do anything to protect his family, to the guy who’s leading the Avengers.”

So, it seems like Reed Richards will take the helm of the Avengers in the MCU's upcoming Avengers films. That would make sense as he is probably going to be the most mature character out of all of them.

In the comics, Richards has evolved from a brilliant but socially awkward scientist to a central figure in the Marvel Universe, often stepping up to take command when Earth’s heroes need guidance. With Avengers: Doomsday looming, the idea of Reed Richards in a leadership role within the MCU feels like a natural progression.

Previous reports have suggested that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) will take charge of one team of Avengers, while Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) will lead the New Avengers, as teased in Thunderbolts*. But if they can’t properly lead their teams, Richards could step into that role and united the teams.

Shakman’s comments certainly leave room for exciting possibilities. Whether or not Reed Richards will command the Avengers remains to be seen, but fans are certainly excited to find out.

What do you think about Mr. Fantastic becoming the new leader of Earth's Mightiest Heroes?
