The Fascinating Story of HBO's Horror Drama LOVECRAFT COUNTRY Explored in New Featurette

HBO’s highly-anticipated horror drama series Lovecraft Country is set to premiere tomorrow and I’m pretty damn excited about watching it! While we wait for the first episode to drop, I’ve got a new featurette for you to watch that dives into the dark and fascinating story that the series tells.

The featurette includes the cast and crew talking about the series and the characters that they play. It also offers up some new footage!

The show follows Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he joins up with his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams). This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.

It’s based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff, and it’s being produced by J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele. Misha Green (Underground, Sons of Anarchy, Heroes) is the driving force behind the series as the executive producer and showrunner, and it looks like she’s created an awesome show!

The ensemble cast also includes Wunmi Mosaku (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) as Ruby Dandridge, Aunjanue Ellis (If Beale Street Could Talk) as Hippolyta Black, Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Christina Braithwhite, Tony Goldwyn (Scandal) as Samuel Braithwhite, Jamie Harris (Rise of the Planets of Apes) as Eustace Hunt, Jamie Chung (The Gifted) as Ji-Ah, Jordan Patrick Smith as William, Jamie Neumann as Hillary, Erica Tazel as Dora Freeman, and Mac Brandt as Lancaster.

The series was directed by Yann Demange, Daniel Sackheim, and David Knoller. Check out the new trailer below. The series will be released on August 16th.
