The Female-Focused FAST AND FURIOUS Spinoff Film Races Forward With Three Writers
A few months ago, Vin Diesel teased that Universal Pictures picked up a pitch for an all-female Fast and Furious spinoff film.
Now Diesel has announced that a writing team has been hired to develop a script. Those writers include Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet. There’s no information on the story but I assume that it will focus on Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and a few of the other female characters that have been introduced in the franchise over the years.
Diesel made the announcement on Instagram, saying:
“As you know, there are three new spin offs that We have promised Universal... well this week we heard a pitch for the Fast female protagonist driven spinoff I created in 2017, and you can tell by the smile on Samantha’s face it was VERY exciting. Shout out to Nicole Perlman, Lindsey Beer, Geneva Robertson-Dworet. Welcome to the Fast FAMILY...”
As far as the work that these writers have don in the past, Perlman has worked on films such as Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy,Captain Marvel ,and Detective Pikachu. Beer worked on the Netflix film Sierra Burgess Is a Loser and is writing the recently announced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Robertson-Dwore’s work include the most recent Tomb Raider movie and Captain Marvel.
The movie is still in the early stages of development, but it’s on its way to happening. The next Fast and Furious film to be released is the Hobbs and Shaw spinoff on July 26th, 2019. That will be followed by Fast and Furious 9 and 10, which are set to open on April 10th, 2020, and April 2nd, 2021.
What are your thoughts on this new Fast and Furious project? Is there anything that you’d like to see from it?
