The FIELD OF DREAMS Series Adaptation is No Longer Moving Forward at Peacock
The series adaptation of Field of Dreams is no longer moving forward at Peacock, but the series isn’t dead. Universal Television is currently shopping the project to other networks and streaming services.
The classic 1989 movie is one of my all-time favorites and it was based on 1982 novel Shoeless Joe written by W. P. Kinsella. I’ve been curious about this series and if the creative team would actually be able to capture the magic of the beautiful story.
The series was set as a reimagining of the movie, which told the story of a farmer, Ray Kinsella, who hears a voice encouraging him to build a baseball diamond in his family's cornfield which attracts the spirits of dead baseball players, but the purpose of the field is bigger than just watching old baseball players return to the game.
The series is said to “reimagine the mixture of family, baseball, Iowa and magic that makes the movie so enduring and beloved.”
The show was ordered straight-to-series at Peacock in August 2021. Michael Schur (The Good Place, Parks and Recreation) was set as the writer and executive producer, with Lawrence Gordon, David Miner, and Morgan Sackett executive producing.
There’s no information on why the series was pulled from Peacock, but I imagine it won’t be hard to find a new home.
