THE FIFTH ELEMENT Director Luc Besson Set To Direct ABC Pilot THE FRENCH DETECTIVE

ABC has ordered a pilot for The French Detective, which is based on James Patterson‘s Luc Moncrief mysteries. ComingSoon.net reports that Luc Besson (The Fifth Element) is set to direct, it will also be his TV directorial debut and Jean Dujardin (The Artist) will star in the series.

The French Detective is written by Assassin's Creed scribes Bill Collage and Adam Cooper and Jonathan Collier (Bones). The show is being described as a “light procedural drama” and will tell the story of Parisian detective Luc Moncrief who joins the NYPD in an effort to start a new life.

The James Patterson series has three books; French Kiss, The Christmas Mystery and French Twist. On Amazon the description of French Kiss reads:

“Very handsome and charming French detective Luc Moncrief joined the NYPD for a fresh start–but someone wants to make his first big case his last. Welcome to New York.“

Dujardin is, of course, best known for playing the role of George Valentin in the 2011 movie The Artist. The film won five Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Dujardin won the award for Best Actor.

Besson created the NBC series Taken, which is a prequel to his movie franchise.
