The Fights in Jake Gyllenhaal's ROAD HOUSE Are "Way Beyond Any Fight That Has Ever Been Filmed in Cinema History"
Jake Gyllenhaal is hyping up the fight scenes that will be presented in his upcoming reimagining of the ‘80s cult classic Road House. The film was directed by Doug Liman who believes this might be the best movie that he’s made. When talking about the fight scenes, Gyllenhaal says they are filmed "in a way that has never been done before." During an interview with Total Film, the actor shared:
"[Director Doug Liman] always does action in a different way, and he came to me and said, 'I want to do fights in a way that has never been done before. He became pretty much obsessed with how the punches would land, and the kicks would land. He didn’t want them to be performed in the way that we have for audiences in the past with that kind of fighting."
Stunt coordinator Garrett Warren said he didn’t think they would attempt shooting these kinds of action scenes through the entire production saying, "We'll do this magic trick once or twice, maybe three times." He added:
"But no, not with Doug. Doug wanted to do it the whole time. The shots were never cut. When you see this movie, the fights are way beyond any fight that has ever been filmed in cinema history. This is something that is groundbreaking."
I’ve got to say, I wasn’t really excited about watching this movie until I heard this. I’m very curious now to see how the fight scenes in this film play out and what exactly makes them so groundbreaking. Maybe they’ll showcase one of them in the next trailer.
The movie is described as an “adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic,” and the story follows ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal), who “takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.” The movie looks like it will have some fun moments.
In addition to Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor, the film also stars Billy Magnussen (No Time To Die), Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad), Gbemisola Ikumelo (A League of Their Own), Lukas Gage (Euphoria), Hannah Love Lanier (The Tiny Mighty Club), Travis Van Winkle (You), B.K. Cannon (Why Women Kill), Arturo Castro (Broad City), Dominique Columbus (Ray Donovan), Beau Knapp (The Lost Symbol), Bob Menery (Full Send Podcast), Joaquim de Almeida (Fast X), Darren Barnet (Agents of SHIELD), Kevin Carroll (Showtime's Let the Right One In), and JD Pardo (Mayans M.C.).
Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke said: "Road House is a homerun for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie. We are thrilled to collaborate with Joel, Doug, and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience."
Road House is scheduled to be released on March 21st.
