The Final SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE Character Is Sora from KINGDOM HEARTS and KINGDOM HEARTS Is Coming to Switch

This morning Masahiro Sakurai revealed the final character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. We started the presentation though looking at the new Mii Fighter costumes which include an Octoling wig from Splatoon, Judd hat from Splatoon, and Doom Slayer for the Gunner. That’s pretty awesome. They’ll be available for $0.75 each on October 18. This pack will be the final DLC for the popular game.

The fighter was then revealed in a very dramatic trailer that showed all the characters as statues. Mario wakes up, grabs some fire and throws it as it then turns into a keyblade and opens a world allowing Sora from Kingdom Hearts to join the party. Sora has been a top contender for the slot by many fans, so there are plenty of people who will be happy about this. Sakurai then talks about how he was surprised and then gives a little bit of information about the Kingdom Hearts franchise. I love Sakurai’s humor in these. It turns out that 6 years ago when they were looking at adding new fighters via DLC for Smash Wii U, Sora was number 1!

Sora is described as being fairly straightforward and excels at fighting in the air. He’s designed to be extremely light as well which is his weakness. We then see that his different player variants. The first four are based on his main outfit changes throughout the series and then the others are the Valor and Wisdom forms from Kingdom Hearts II, Ultimate from Kingdom Hearts III, and his look from Timeless River.

Sakurai then walks us through Sora’s movesets and combos. I think Sora looks like a lot of fun. Sakurai said the Final smash is called Sealing the Keyhole, but wants players to see it for themselves. Don’t worry, he shows it off in the exhibition match he has.

Sora comes with the Rising Falls stage with Hollow Bastion in the distance. It’s very simple and only has one platform in the center. When time gets low or stock is low, the stage transitions to Dive to the Heart which is gorgeous. Here, different characters will be highlighted in the stained glass art. For new music, the team stuck with 9 songs from the main themes instead of world-specific songs and there are no new arrangements. If you have save data for Melody of Memory, you will get the Swing Version of a song.

Sora will be available on October 18 for $5.99 or as part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2. Also, the Steve amiibo is launching in Spring 2022 and an Alex amiibo will be released as well. Sakurai then reveals that the Kingdom Hearts games are coming to Nintendo Switch. This includes the HD 1.5, 2.5, 2.8, and III! This is huge! Now these games are available on all consoles and PC which is awesome.

The presentation ends with a look back at Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and all the greatness it has achieved.
