The First 5 Minutes of STRANGER THINGS 5 Have Dropped
Netflix just shared the opening scene from the highly anticipated final season of Stranger Things, and it’s pretty intense. If you’re trying to stay spoiler-free before the show’s big return later this month, this is your cue to stop reading now.
The scene takes us all the way back to November 12, 1983, the day everything changed for Hawkins. We see what happened to a young Will Byers during his terrifying time trapped in the Upside Down.
It’s dark, tense, and dripping with the creepy atmosphere that made the series such a phenomenon. After a desperate attempt to escape a Demogorgon, Will is ultimately captured and dragged before Vecna, who clearly has something truly disturbing in store for him.
This first look sets the tone for what’s being teased as the show’s most emotional and horrifying chapter yet. While there’s still an animated spin-off in development set between Seasons 2 and 3, this fifth season is the end of the main Stranger Things story, and the Duffer Brothers are making sure it goes out with everything they’ve got.
Matt Duffer recently said, “We do every last remaining thing we wanted to do with the Demogorgons and Mind Flayer and Vecna and the Upside Down and Hawkins and these characters. This is a complete story. It’s done.”
The synopsis reads: "The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.
“As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time."
Between the haunting flashback and that ominous setup, Stranger Things Season 5 is sure to be a massive, emotional conclusion for fans who have been following this story since 2016.
