The First Episode of THE LAST OF US Was Awesome and Here's a Trailer For What's To Come!
The first episode of The Last of Us dropped on HBO Max recently and it was quite the impressive start to what looks like an incredibly well-made series! Creators Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) have been hyping up this show, saying that it’s "the best, most authentic game adaptation" ever made, and yeah, it looks like that’s about right! I mean, we’ve only seen one episode so far, but I think that we’re going to see this high quality of storytelling and production over the course of the rest of the series.
There have been a few changes in the adaptation, but they work! One of the biggest changes was how the infection in the story spreads. In the game, people are infected by the cordyceps fungus by inhaling airborne spores. In the series, it’s spread through tendrils, and it works perfectly. Cordyceps is actually a real thing with insects and it’s absolutely terrifying. Cordyceps will infect an insect and control its motor functions, after the insect dies, the fungus can use its decaying corpse as fuel to grow.
The most important thing is the story and writing, and they completely nailed that, it’s top-notch work! Then on top of that, you’ve got great acting from everyone involved, and then there’s the epic visual production value.
I’m very happy with how this first episode turned out, and it looks like this is going to be awesome series that takes fans on an intense and wild ride! I’ve included a trailer below teasing what’s in store for the upcoming episodes of the series. Check it out and let us know what you thought of the first episode!
Pedro Pascal stars in the series as Joel, and Bella Ramsey is taking on the role of Ellie in the upcoming video game adaptation. They are joined by Gabriel Luna as Joel's brother Tommy, Anna Torv, Merle Dandrige, Nick Offerman, Storm Reid, Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Pierce, and Murray Bartlett.
The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a deadly virus. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone to the Fireflies, a cure-searching organization. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
