The First Footage Screened For THE PREDATOR and Damn... It Was Good!
One of the films I was most looking forward to seeing footage from at CinemaCon this year was for director Shane Black's The Predator! I love this franchise! I loved the first two films and the fact that this next movie is set after the events that take place in those films makes me happy.
The first trailer for the film was screened during 20th Century Fox's presentation and it begins with a shot of a house in a suburban neighborhood on Halloween. All of the kids are out trick-or-treating and it looks like a scene right out of Halloween night in Steven Spielberg's E.T. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what Shane Black was going for.
The scene cuts to the inside of the house where a young boy, played by Jacob Tremblay, finds a box that's all taped up by his front door from JP Courier Co. He takes it to his room where he proceeds to open it up and when he does he pulls out a Predator helmet and a few other alien artifacts. He starts to mess around with it and push a button on some kind of tech and it starts some kind of beacon that awakens a Predator ship in space.
The boy starts to play with what looks like a little alien crafter and is smashing it into things. This scene is intercut with footage of the actual alien ship flying into Earth's orbit and ultimately ends up crashing on Earth.
We then see Boyd Holbrook's character being interrogated about something he saw. He's not taking it seriously though and is joking around about seeing an alien ship. Then we get our first look at Sterling K. Brown's character, who happens to know that he did see an alien ship. Holbrook goes on to joke that he feels like "an alien" on his own planet.
There's then a bunch of action-packed footage thrown at us of a chaotic chase in the woods. We hear the iconic Predator cackle and there's a lot of gunfire. We get quick little glimpses of the Predator while this is going on. We see footage of them using their weapons, including a glaive-looking thing, and they are violently slicing through people.
We also get a look at Olivia Munn, who plays a scientist. She explains that this species of Predator is going from planet to planet and upgrading themselves with different kinds of DNA from the species that they conquered. She tells the military team that they pose a threat and Holbrook replies with, "posing a threat is kind of the fucking point."
The footage closes out with a scene of Olivia Munn holding a big gun and shooting at the Predators. Sterling K. Brown’s character asks her, "You’re pretty handy with a gun, where’d you learn?” Munn replies, "America."
I have no idea when this trailer will be released but I hope that they release it soon! you need to watch it for yourself! All I know is that now I'm even more excited about seeing this movie! It looks like it's going to be the badass blood-filled R-rated Predator movie that fans have been waiting for.
Here's the latest synopsis that was released:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
The movie also stars Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight), Yvonne Strahovski (Dexter), and Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones).
Black co-wrote the script with his Monster Squad co-writer Fred Dekker, and it will be released in theaters on September 14, 2018.
