The First Reactions to DETECTIVE PIKACHU Have Rolled In and People Seem to Love It!

There was recently a screening for Legendary Pictures’ upcoming Pokemon movie Detective Pikachu in Japan.The reactions from those who attended started flooding social media, and as you’ll see, fans seem to love the film!

Words like cute, heartwarming, and adorable are littered throughout the reactions. One says that it’s the best video game adaptation that has been made, and another likens the film to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?.

This is a movie that I’ve been on the fence about. It’s one I haven’t really been excited about, but these first reactions do lift my spirits. It’s always nice to see a movie you’re not so sure about bombarded with great reviews! I hope that the movie lives up to the hype!

My kids are super excited about watching this movie, and in the end I know they’re going to love it. I might actually end up being pleasantly surprised by this movie.

Partner up with a legend! POKÉMON #DetectivePikachu hits cinemas May 10. The world of Pokémon comes to life! The first-ever live-action Pokémon adventure, "POKÉMON Detective Pikachu" stars Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, the iconic face of the global Pokémon phenomenon-one of the world's most popular, multi-generation entertainment properties and the most successful media franchise of all time.

Here’s the synopsis:

In a world where people collect pocket-size monsters (pokemon) to do battle, a boy comes across an intelligent monster who seeks to be a detective.

Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) takes on the role of Pikachu, and he is joined by Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies), Ken Watanabe (Inception), Suki Waterhouse (Revenge), Rita Ora (Fifty Shades Freed), and Bill Nighy (Gideon’s Daughter). 

The story of Detective Pikachu centers around Smith’s character’s father getting kidnapped. He teams up with Pikachu (Reynolds) to help find him. Newton plays a journalist who helps them on their quest. Ken Watanabe will play a new character created for the film called Detective Yoshida.

Detective Pikachu is directed by Goosebumps director Rob Letterman from a script written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls). Detective Pikachu will be the first film in a planned franchise centering on the character.

Detective Pikachu hits theaters on May 10th, 2019.
