The First Trailer for DC's JOKER Is Here and It Tells a Tragic Story
Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for DC’s upcoming film Joker, which was directed by Todd Phillips and stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime. When I first saw this trailer yesterday at CinemaCon I was surprised by it. This movie looks so freakin’ good, and it looks like Phoenix might give us one of the best performances of his career.
As you’ll see in the trailer, Phoenix’s character Arthur is going through a very dark time in his life, and that darkness will engulf him, take over, and transform him into The Joker. We’ve been told that the movie will deal with mental illness, and the director also described the film as a tragedy, which you will see in this trailer.
I was floored by what I was seeing from Phoenix’s performance, and I think there’s a good chance that fans will embrace this film after they watch the trailer. This thing is going to go super dark on so many levels.
One other thing the director pointed out at the event is that the movie is still taking shape, and he wants it to surprise fans. He also said that all of the rumors online surrounding the movie are inaccurate. This was the official synopsis that was released:
Joker centers around the iconic arch-nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
The film also stars Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, and Marc Maron.
Joker will be released in theaters on October 4th, 2019. Watch the trailer and let us know if it sells you on this movie!
