The FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S Movie is "Rapidly Moving Forward"
A film adaptation of the popular video game franchise Five Nights at Freddy’s has been in development for years. The last bit of news we heard about it was a couple of years ago when Chris Columbus (Home Alone, Gremlins, The Goonies) was attached to write and direct it.
Well, producer Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions recently shared an update on the status of the movie with Fandom, and he says that it’s very much in active development and that it’s “rapidly moving forward”. Here’s his full comment:
“So I really feel like we have a very good shot at getting to see a Five Nights at Freddy’s movie. I feel like it’s really moving forward. It’s not stalled or anything else. It might seem that way because we haven’t done any announcements about it, but it’s not stalled. It’s moving rapidly forward and I don’t want to put a timeline on it, but soon we’ll get a movie. I really feel confident about it.”
So we still don’t know when the movie will actually release, but it’s good to know that it is actually moving forward! This has the potential to be a great family horror film! I know my own kids have been waiting to see it since it was first announced.
If you're not familiar with Five Nights at Freddy's, the story centers on a security guard who has to battle animatronic robots that come to life in a Chuck E. Cheese-like venue. And these things are supposed to be terrifying. My kids love this game franchise and they are constantly screaming when they play it. There are six games in the franchise and there's also a series of novels and retail merchandise lines.
Columbus is still attached as the director of the film with Scott Cawthon, the creator of the first Five Nights at Freddy’s, helping write the script.
