THE FLASH Actor Michael Shannon Criticizes Multiverse Superhero Movies Comparing Them to "Somebody Playing With Action Figures"

Actor Michael Shannon is returning to the DC Universe. After having played the villainous General Zod in Man of Steel, he is playing the character again in the movie The Flash, due to its timeline jumping storyline, which brings him back. The actor previously talked about his return, saying:

"I was a little confused. I said, 'As memory serves me, I think I died in Man of Steel. Are they sure they got the right guy?' But then they explained to me the whole multiverse phenomenon, which ... I was a little behind the times on that."

Now that Shannon has shot his scenes for the film and he’s all up to speed, he is no longer confused, but has shifted to critical about the whole idea of a multiverse.

Shannon recently told Collider:

"Yeah. I'm not gonna lie, it wasn't quite satisfying for me, as an actor. These multiverse movies are like somebody playing with action figures. It's like, 'Here's this person. Here's that person. And they're fighting!' It's not quite the in-depth character study situation that I honestly felt Man of Steel was. Whether people think that's crazy or not, I don't even care. I really felt like Man of Steel was actually a pretty sophisticated story. I feel like The Flash is too, but it's not Zod's story. I'm basically there to present a challenge."

Yeah, it’s not all about you, Michael Shannon! Sorry you’re a part of the story, and not the main attraction. Whether he believes it or not, he has a story objective, and he plays a key role in the film. But this movie is about The Flash and his multiversal journey. The Flash is a fantastic movie, and it speeds into theaters this weekend. Tickets are available now.
