THE FLASH Director Andy Muschietti Says The Film Will Tell a "Different Version of Flashpoint"

As Warner Bros. continues to press forward on their slate of DC film projects, IT director Andy Muschietti has confirmed that The Flash movie he’s directing will tell the Flashpoint storyline. But, he explains that it’s not going to be what we are expecting.

The filmmaker recently moderated a panel after a screening of Underwater with the cast of the film. During that panel, he confirmed that he is working on the upcoming Flash movie and teased that it will be a “different version of Flashpoint than you’re expecting.”

The Flashpoint storyline is one of The Flash’s most popular comic book stories. It’s set in an alternate world where Barry Allen wakes up and the world has changed. Wonder Woman and Aquaman are in a battle for world dominance. A world where Captain Cold is considered a hero, Bruce Wayne is dead, and Thomas Wayne is the one who becomes Batman. Cyborg has also become the world’s hero in place of Superman, who has been held captive by the US Government in an underground facility in Metropolis. Barry Allen is forced to find out how the world was changed and how he can bring it back to normal.

With the DCEU pretty much being dismantled since Justice League was released, It’s not hard to imagine that this story of Flashpoint will be different. I’m not sure how exactly Muschietti is changing things, but chances are Batman and Superman will not be involved. I imagine this new Flashpoint story will see some character changes that better fit into with what the DCEU has become. However, I would be shocked and surprised if Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck reprised their roles as Superman and Batman in the film!

What do you think Muschietti and DC are planning for this Flashpoint storyline? How would you like to see it handled?

The Flash is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 1, 2022.
