THE FLASH Director Andy Muschietti Talks About the Possibility of a Sequel
I recently had the opportunity to see The Flash while at CinemaCon and this DC movie seriously delivers something special. The movie was so freakin’ good! The last hour especially was such an awesome cinematic experience, especially if you’re a fan of DC.
After watching this movie and seeing how the story plays out, I honestly don’t know how anyone could follow that up with a sequel that could hit the bar that this movie set. But, director Andy Muschietti is excited about the opportunity to continue the story if DC Studios gives them the go.
After the screening of the film that took place, Muschietti participated in a Q&A with his producer/sister, Barbara Muschietti. When asked about a potential sequel, the director claimed that he “didn’t talk about it” with DC Studios and that the continuation all depends on who the first movie does at the box office.
“I think that we’re all waiting to see how this movie does. Of course, there’s excitement about continuing the story, especially if this movie is successful. Of course, there’s an architecture in DC that is brewing and it’s being created. And the question is, will this new architecture absorb this story?
Muschietti does go on to say that he thinks the introduction of the multiverse opens the door for another installment:
“The good thing about the multiverse is that it is possible. The multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist and interact, and so, hopefully, yes, I mean, we don’t know yet. That’s the truth.”
If a sequel does get made, I really hope Muschietti has some good ideas that will be able to match what he did with this first movie. It’s going to be hard!
In the film, "Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian... albeit not the one he's looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry's only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?"
The movie also stars Ezra Miller stars as Barry Allen, a.k.a. The Flash, Michael Keaton, who is back as Batman, Ben Affleck as Batman, and Michael Shannon as Zod, with Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdú who are playing Barry’s parents. Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls) and internet personality Rudy Mancuso will also appear.
The Flash will be released on June 16th 2023.
