THE FLASH Star Sasha Calle Hopes to Continue Playing Supergirl in the DC Cinematic Universe
Sasha Calle was pretty awesome in the role of Supergirl in director Andy Muschietti’s The Flash, and she had some pretty badass scenes in the movie. I would actually love to see the version of the character explored further in other films, but I have no idea if that will happen.
Calle certainly doesn’t want this to be a one-and-done superhero experience for her. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Calle said that she would love to keep playing Supergirl in the DC cinematic universe! She said:
“I hope to continue playing Supergirl. I love her deeply! And I think that [The Flash] is really a runway to a bigger story for her. We don’t really get to experience a lot. I feel like this is a runway to a bigger story. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, by Tom King, is an incredible comic. I love it. I think it’s so cool. So yeah, I would hope to continue. I hope to continue playing Supergirl for sure.”
She’s definitely got some ideas that she’d like to explore! We just don’t really know what James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plan is for the actress moving forward. They did announce a Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series project that the actress mentioned, and in regards to that they said:
“Super Girl Woman of Tomorrow. This is based on Tom King’s wonderful comic book series that came out just last year. It's up for a bunch of awards. This is a very different type of Super Girl. In our series, we see the difference between Superman who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time is an infant versus super girl who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, and then came to earth when she was a young girl and is much more hardcore. She's not exactly the Super Girl we are used to seeing.”
We have no idea if Calle’s version of Supergirl will be the one that we see in this project. If it is, it could work, and it would pretty much be a prequel story leading up to how where the story picks up for her in The Flash. But again, Gunn and Safran might have a whole different vision for Supergirl in this project.
Regardless, I would like to see Sasha Calle return to play Supergirl again at some point. We’ll just have to wait and see if she gets that chance!
