The Flying Monsters in GODZILLA Can't Actually Fly According to BECAUSE SCIENCE

The best part of any Godzilla film is when you have the giant monsters called Kaiju fighting each other. That’s really all we’re wanting in these films. If there’s a decent story, that’s just icing on the cake.

Well, Kyle Hill recently took some time on Because Science to look at the wings of some of Godzilla’s foes like King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan, and he found out that these monsters do not have the correct wing size in order to actually be able to fly.

His math wizardry, based on some canonical numbers for mass and size, actually leads to the conclusion that it would be technically impossible for these creatures to actually fly. That won’t stop us from enjoying the spectacles as we watch them throwdown in Godzilla: King of the Monsters which is now in theaters.

Who’s your favorite flying Kaiju?

The King of the Monsters and his fellow colossal companions have been trampling their way across film history for decades. They've all seen updates, redesign, and even a few growth spurts over the years, but are Godzilla's winged co-stars big enough? Kyle takes flight as he explores this kaiju conundrum in this week's Because Science!
