Will Smith Producing THE FRESH PRINCE OF BEL-AIR TV Revival

If Hollywood has its way, the 1990s will never die. Along with the slew of remakes and reboots that are coming to the big screen, the latest trend is to dig up the corpses of old TV shows and resuscitate those for new audiences. (In my mind, Girl Meets World is largely responsible for this.) We'll soon be seeing continuations of Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Full House, and more, and now another show has been tossed on the sacrificial altar to the '90s: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

TV Line is reporting that a new version of the show is in the very early stages of development at Will Smith's Overbrook Entertainment production company, and if the show were to move forward, Smith — who was launched to fame by the original series — would produce.

The show would be "a present-day Fresh Prince reboot that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series." There's no word yet on whether or not that means that it will be a completely new show with the same sort of premise, or a continuation closer in line with Fuller House or Girl Meets World that could leave the door open for returning characters from the original series. (I'm sure Alfonso Ribeiro is already readying his Carlton sweater and waiting by the phone.)

Would you watch a revival of The Fresh Prince? In the meantime, you can watch the intro to the show recreated in Grand Theft Auto V right here.
