The Future of POWER RANGERS Comics Explored in the Comic-Con@Home Panel
Over the weekend, Power Rangers fans got to enjoy the BOOM! Studios panel for the comics fans have come to love. The panel was hosted by Erin Cahill (Power Rangers Time Force) and featured Steve Cardenas (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Power Rangers Zeo) and Guiseppe Cafaro, Matthew Erman, Matthew Levine, Ryan Parrott, Dafna Pleban, Marco Renna, and Francesco Segala from BOOM! Studios.
The first part of the panel talked about where the comics have been and where they’re going with the two new series Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers. I really appreciate the fact that they’re going to use the new series to help explore stories that take place outside of Earth. I think that’s a wonderful approach and really opens up a lot of storytelling. When talking about the new Green Ranger, Parrott teased that it was someone that fans would expect and not expect. I think right now we’re all figuring it’ll be Drakkon, right?
Levine also talked about how they’ve had to work within the canon of Power Rangers, but also have the freedom to tell new stories. It was interesting to hear him talk about creating chaos but staying within the lines.
Another interesting bit was when Cardenas piped up and talked about a dossier that he received with information about his character Rocky De Santos. Inside the dossier was information about Rocky’s personal life like he came from a single parent home and had a bunch of siblings. The whole BOOM! team was unaware of this and promptly requested he send the dossier over. After hearing that Parrott is currently loving exploring Rocky’s character that he was particularly interested.
The latter part of the panel was talking about the upcoming graphic novel from Erman, Cafaro, and Segala: Power Rangers: Sins of the Future. Cahill was understandably excited about this as her character Jen Scotts is front and center in the novel. Fans were also blown away when shown the new original Time Force Black Ranger who has a bone to pick with Jen and Wes. We were also shown the first couple of pages from the graphic novel and it looks beautiful.
I am excited for the future of the comics and for Sins of the Future. I cannot wait for their releases in November and October respectively. You can watch the panel in its entirety below.
