The GAME OF THONES Finale Has Fans Debating Over The Worst Series Finale Ever
I thought I’d give everyone an extra day to watch Game of Thrones before posting this. I’m sure that some of you still have yet to see it, and if you haven’t, you might want to skip this. I don’t really go into any major spoilers, but I’m saying that just to be safe.
If you have seen the series finale, then I know you all have an opinion. For me I felt that although this was one of the greatest shows ever, this finale season just didn’t do it for me. It felt forced and rushed and nothing about it felt like a natural progression to a conclusion. It was a disappointment, not only for me but for a lot of other fans. But, I’m over it and in the end, as a whole, it sure was a wild ride, and I enjoyed the hell out of the series! I also loved the performances from all of the crazy talented actors that were a part of it.
There was a lot of hard work that went into developing this series from everyone involved and it must’ve been an incredible experience for the cast and crew to be a part of. So it really bums me out that this was the final season, and the way the show ended is being dumped on by so many people and is bringing the worst out in the fans. Yeah, I get that people were disappointed by it, but life goes on, and there are more important things to be worrying about.
As you might have expected, the series finale cooked up a debate among fans about what the worst series finale ever made was. Game of Thrones seems to be up there for a lot of fans.
Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss previously said they planned on avoiding social media after the finale, which might be a smart idea. Weiss told EW that they wanted people to love it, but:
“We’ll in an undisclosed location, turning off our phones and opening various bottles. At some point, if and when it’s safe to come out again, somebody like [HBO’s Game of Thrones publicist Mara Mikialian] will give us a breakdown of what was out there without us having to actually experience it.”
Added Benioff, “I plan to be very drunk and very far from the internet.” Weiss went on to say that it matters a lot to them that people enjoy it because they, “spent 11 years doing this.” But, he went on to say, “we also know no matter what we do, even if it’s the optimal version, that a certain number of people will hate the best of all possible versions.”
That “certain number of people” turned into a lot of people. More than I’m sure they were expecting. They also said:
“There is no version where everybody says, ‘I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this’ — that’s an impossible reality that doesn’t exist. You hope you’re doing the best job you can, that this version works better than any other version, but you know somebody is not going to like it. I’ve been that person with other things, where people are loving something and I’m going, ‘Yeah, that’s okay. I was hoping for more.’”
Below you’ll find several reactions from fans on Twitter as well as fans debating what they feel the worst series finale has been. Some of the finales mentioned include Dexter, Seinfeld, Sons of Anarchy, How I Met Your Mother, Lost, and more.

If you think that season was good. You need to reassess your reasons because clearly you are doing it for reasons and not because you loved Game of Thrones.— SH (@ShehzadHassam) May 20, 2019
Worst ending ever. Worse then lost. Infact losts final season and game of thrones final season are so bad I can’t choose.
Has there ever been a TV show that reached "cultural icon" status that also delivered a universally satisfying series finale? I... can't think of one? Seinfeld, Sopranos were divisive at best.— Alex Weprin (@alexweprin) May 20, 2019
Not to be dramatic but the Game of Thrones finale was probably one of the worst finales I have seen in my 25 years of life.— Siyanda (@zan__m) May 20, 2019
Most disappointing series finale (for a show you faithfully watched):— Joy Reid (@JoyAnnReid) May 20, 2019
How I Met Your Mother. No contest.— Jane Fairall (@FairallJane) May 20, 2019
Dexter had, by far, thee worst ending ever. EVER!!!! LOL.— JacquelineB (@Pebbiss2000) May 20, 2019
Son’s of Anarchy— I-resist-for-our-future🇺🇸 (@moondancephotos) May 20, 2019
Seinfeld, anyone?— Joey (@geojohwee) May 20, 2019
HIMYM still the worst ending for me. After HIMYM I felt anger, disappointment, embarrassment, rage. With GOT I just feel disappointment and laughing at all this nonsense and in my mind I'm already moving on— Nej (@delenafatalist) May 20, 2019
Someone needs to make an alternative ending for GoT like they did for HIMYM— Amira Sultan (@Amira_Valli) May 20, 2019
I was a huge fan of the series “Dexter.” The finale is one of the most reviled hours of television in history. It really sucked. Like, REALLY sucked. But, insane as it may sound, I not only didn’t petition Showtime to redo it, I actually went pleasantly along with my life.— Richard Marx (@richardmarx) May 20, 2019
I was disappointed with the ending of Dexter but in some way it was the only thing he could have done was go away where there was little temptation to kill & if he did there was no one there to catch him although they could have done a better job with it— mareefeb (@mareefeb) May 20, 2019
All these years people thought that game of thrones is a fictional tv series and it turned out to be a shitty comedy.. this was the worst season and finale was the worst episode of the entire series..fuck david benioff and D B weiss#GameOfThrones #GameOfThronesFinale pic.twitter.com/tqp8lwyJh1— saad bin nizakat (@SaadNizakat) May 20, 2019
