The GINGER SNAPS Horror Film Franchise Is Getting a Series Adaption From the Producers of KILLING EVE
The cult horror film franchise Ginger Snaps is getting a series adaptation from producers of AMC’s awesome series Killing Eve.
There was a trilogy of Ginger Snaps films released in the early 2000s. I only ever saw the first one, but I honestly don’t really remember it. The story follows a pair of teenage sisters named Brigitte and Ginger who are obsessed with death and the occult. Ginger ends up getting bitten by a vicious creature and turns into a werewolf. Brigitte then finds herself fighting to stop her monstrous sister from wreaking havoc on their town.
The original films starred Emily Perkins and Katharine Isabelle, and the other two films, which were shot back-to-back in 2004, included Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed and a prequel titled Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning.
I assume that the new series will be a retelling of the original films. Sid Gentle Films, the production company behind Killing Eve, is working with Copperheart Entertainment, who produced the original Ginger Snaps films on the adaptation.
John Fawcett, who directed the original film and co-created the hit BBC series Orphan Black, will serve as executive producer alongside Sid Gentle’s Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris. Clark Peterson and Copperheart Entertainment’s Steve Hoban will also executive produce. Anna-Maria Ssemuyaba will write the Ginger Snaps series if it ends up getting picked up.
Are you fans of the original Ginger Snaps films? What do you think about it being adapted into a series? I’ll have to revisit the franchise to remind myself of what this movie was. Here’s a trailer for the original movie:
