THE GOONIES Set Was a Hangout Spot for Some of the Biggest Hollywood Stars
The 1985 film The Goonies still reigns as one of the greatest adventure movies of all time. It follows a ragtag group of kids on a rainy day in Astoria, Oregon, whose houses are facing foreclosure. They decide to go on one last adventure together, in the hopes of finding a treasure to buy their way back into home ownership without moving. It’s such a great tale of friendship, pirates, revenge, love, and heroism, and it holds up great after all these years.
The stars of the film were just starting out, many of them young teens, and most went on to do big things in Hollywood. But as it turns out, they weren’t the only Hollywood stars hanging out on the set of the film.
The cast includes Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Jeff Cohen, Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Martha Plimpton, and recent Oscar-winner Ke Huy Quan.
In an old interview with Empire, the cast reunited for the 30th anniversary for the movie, and Feldman described the excitement on the set of the film:
"'Pee-Wee's Big Adventure' was shooting across the lot, so Tim Burton and Paul Reubens would come over. Dan Aykroyd too. Harrison Ford actually came and climbed around the caves with us at one point. Michael Jackson and his whole family were there quite a bit. It was the happening, you know? One downside was, I became friends with Michael and was wearing a Prince T-shirt every day."
That’s pretty wild! That’s definitely a cool line-up of some of Hollywood’s biggest A-listers at the time. Not to mention the fact that Steven Spielberg himself co-wrote the movie, and also helped make the movie. I can only imagine how awesome it was to be on that set and in that environment. It sure worked out to be a special movie, and it fostered some incredible talents.
