The Head of HBO Max Wishes Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE Would Only Cost $30 Million
Not long after Zack Snyder announced his cut of Justice League would be released on HBO Max, it was reported that the film would cost $20 to $30 million. The reason for the extra cost is because Snyder’s cut of the film isn’t completed. Snyder and his team still need to cut the film together, finish the VFX work, add the scores, and bring the cast back in to record new dialogue.
Well, it turns out that finishing up the movie will probably end up costing the studio more than $30 million. During a recent interview with Recode Media, the head of HBO Max, Bob Greenblatt, indicated it would be even more expensive. He said:
“It isn’t as easy as going into the vault and there’s a Snyder Cut sitting there to put out. It does not exist. Zack is actually building it and it’s complex including…new VFX shots. It’s a radical rethinking of that movie and it’s complicated and wildly expensive… I’ll just say I wish it was just $30 million and stop there. It’s an enormous undertaking and very complex.”
That’s kind of funny because he comes out and says that the Snyder Cut does not exist. This is something the studio reps and inside sources have been saying for years. So, while Snyder is going to get to share his vision of the film, there’s not currently an existing cut. This is something that he and his creative team are going to create our of the footage that exists.
This cut of the film that we’ll see is nearly four hours long, and there’s a possibility that it will be cut up into separate chapters. It’ll be interesting to learn what the final budget of this movie is when all is said and done.
Also, in case you were wondering, this movie will not lead to any spinoffs of sequels. This is being planned as a one and done deal.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be released in 2021.
