THE HOBBIT's Gates of Erebor Created with 55,000 LEGO Bricks

We've featured some impressive LEGO creations that spotlight elements from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings trilogy before, including recreations of Helm's Deep, Isengard, Rivendell, and the eye of Sauron, and this new creation stands right alongside those in my mind.

Michał Kaźmierczak spent seven months building a crazily detailed replica of the gates of Erebor at the base of the Lonely Mountain, which was one of the major locations featured in The Hobbit and Peter Jackson's film adaptation. This thing stands five feet tall, and took 55,000 bricks to complete. I can't even fathom the amount of willpower it takes to complete a project that tedious, and I tip my hat to anyone who can stick with it and pull off something cool like this. Thanks to Kotaku for the heads up, and head there to see more photos of this impressive LEGO recreation.
