The Horror Thriller ORPHAN Is Getting a Prequel Film Helmed by the Director of BRAHMS: THE BOY II

The director of the upcoming horror film sequel Brahms: The Boy II, William Brent Bell, has found his next film project. He is set to direct a prequel to Warner Bros. and Dark Castle’s 2009 horror thriller Orphan.

The film is titled Esther, and in it, “Lena Klammer orchestrates a brilliant escape from a Russian psychiatric facility and travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. But Lena’s new life as ‘Esther’ comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost.”

I don’t know if you remember Orphan or not, but it ended with an interesting unexpected twist where the troubled little girl that was taken in by a couple actually ended up being an older woman with a condition that makes her look young. It was actually one of the few twists in a film that I didn’t see coming. That first film was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Shallows, The Commuter, Jungle Cruise).

While I enjoyed the first movie, I never thought I’d see another sequel or a prequel. It just seemed like one of those solid standalone movies. But 11 years later, the studio is ready to tell another story with this character. Hopefully, it’s a good one that’s worth it.
