THE INVISIBLE MAN Director Leigh Whannell to Helm Ryan Gosling's WOLFMAN Movie
Universal Pictures looking to move fast on its Wolfman horror film project, and they are going to hire The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell to helm it. He’s currently in negotiations with the studio.
I loved what he did with The Invisible Man, so the fact that he’s coming in to take on Wolfman next is good news! The story is based on an original idea that he came up with and it is inspired by the 1941 classic. He’s working on a treatment for the movie, and Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (Netflix’s Orange is the New Black) will write the script.
Ryan Gosling is set to star in the film. It’s interesting because the initial report said that Gosling was in talks to direct the film as well, and the story was based on an original pitch that he came up with.
So, there’s an original idea for the film from Gosling and an original idea from Whannell. I assume they are going to move forward with Whannell’s vision, but it will most likely incorporate some of the ideas that Gosling had.
According to Deadline, Whannell and Gosling have wanted to work together for some time, and this is the project that they are coming together on. Whannell initially didn’t want to direct the movie at first, but Jason Blum’s wife, Schuker Blum, who is a producer, asked the director to reconsider. He did, and he took the job.
There’s no information on the story, but the story is said to be set in modern times and is described as being “in the vein of Jake Gyllenhaal’s thriller Nightcrawler, with an obvious supernatural twist.”
