J.J. Abrams' WWII Sci-Fi Horror Film OVERLORD Looks Batshit-Crazy! And It's Not a CLOVERFIELD Movie!
J.J. Abrams shared the first footage from his upcoming new film project that he is producing called Overlord. There have been rumors that this movie would be a part of the Cloverfield cinematic universe, but Abrams made it very clear that this is not a Cloverfield movie. This is an original film that stands on its own. The filmmaker also said that Overlord will be Bad Robot's first R-rated film and says that it's completely batshit crazy! And you know what!? It totally is!
The footage starts out with an old black and white Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot Logo. It then gets right into the action as we see a wave of B-52 bombers flying through the air into Normandie the day before D-Day. While this is going on, a narrator says:
"You are about to embark upon a great crusade. You will bring about the destruction of the German army. The eyes of the world are upon you."
There are paratroopers in these bombers and they start to be shot at and they are getting completely blown to pieces in midair. One soldier is able to jump out of the plane and deploy his parachute and lands safely in the ocean after gliding through the chaos in the air.
We then get a barrage of insane clips. We see a team of soldiers fighting other German soldiers as they take over a bunker of sorts. While this is going on, we see some captions on the screen that read:
“The enemy is hiding. Every soldier must face their demons."
And in this case, the demons are real! The visuals just seem to get more and more insane as they go on. There’s an eerie shot of dead soldiers hanging from trees, then we see some insane genetically modified Nazis that are like freakin' monsters! Some of them are disembodied and have fanged heads!
There is one extremely graphic shot that the footage ends on of a soldier hearing a sound in some kind of scientific test laboratory. It's coming from behind a white sheet. When he removes the sheet he sees the head of a woman being held up in clamps with the bloody spinal cord hanging out of it. The head is alive! And it's talking!
This is going to be an insane movie! It has a crazy old-school B-horror movie vibe to it that I really dig. Here's the synopsis that was released for the film:
On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.
Julius Avery directed the film, and it stars Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell, Jacob Anderson, Pilou Asbaek, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro and Bokeem Woodbine.
The movie hits theaters on October 26th and it's a movie you won't want to miss!
