The Joker Origin Movie Gets an Obvious Title and a Release Date
Well, that Joker origin film starring Joaquin Pheonix has a title and a release date. Are you ready for this? The title of the movie will simply be called Joker and it will hit theaters on October 4th, 2019.
I know a lot of people might roll their eyes at that title, but it's simple and it's pretty much what it needs to be. It's a Joker movie!
Warner Bros. has a huge DC movie presence at Comic-Con this year and with Marvel Studios skipping out, DC has a chance to reign supreme. Aquaman, Shazam!, and Wonder Woman 2 are going to make a big splash, but we don't know if they will have anything to say about Joker yet.
Todd Phillips is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Scott Silver, and then there's Martin Scorsese who is also a producer on the film. The studio describes the story as being an "exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale."
Joker is "meant to be different from other comic book superhero movies". The story is also said to "delve into what it took for the Joker to become a mastermind criminal" and rumor has it that the film story was inspired by The Killing Joke and that it revolve around a failed comedian who ends up becoming a criminal.
I'm pretty excited for this movie. The fact that they are experimenting and trying something new with the DC properties is kinda cool and I hope that it works out. I'm definitely more excited about this Joker movie than the Jared Leto one.
