THE LAST OF US Casts Isabela Merced in a Key Role in Season 2
The Last of Us series has cast Isabela Merced in the upcoming second season. She will be taking on the role of Dina in the series, and she joins the recently cast Kaitlyn Dever, who will take on the role of Abby, as well as Beef star Young Mazino, who will take on the role of Jesse.
Series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann described Dina as “a warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable. You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.”
Dina is described as “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.”
Merced appeared in the film Rosaline alongside Dever, and her other film credits include the title role in the live-action feature Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and Transformers: The Last Knight. She also has a number of high-profile films coming including playing Hawkgirl in Superman: Legacy, a role in Alien: Romulus, and a starring role in Madame Web.
The series also stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The story takes place 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed by a deadly virus. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone to the Fireflies, a cure-searching organization. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
