THE LAST OF US Season 2 Will Feature "Pretty Brutal" Deleted Content From the Game

HBO’s The Last of Us is gearing up for its second season, and if you thought the first season didn’t pull any punches, brace yourself because things are about to get even more brutal.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, series co-creator Neil Druckmann teased that Season 2 will incorporate elements that were originally cut from The Last of Us Part II video game.

Druckmann said: "I'm very excited for people to see it," carefully avoiding any specifics. But he did confirm one thing—it’s going to be “pretty brutal.”

This is interesting to hear considering The Last of Us Part II already pushed the boundaries of how much violence, heartbreak, and raw human emotion a player could endure.

If this content was cut from the game, it makes you wonder if was too much even by The Last of Us standards. But, I guess we’re about to see it unfold in live-action.

We know The Last of Us isn’t afraid to go to dark places, but with cut content from Part II making its way into the show, it’s clear that Season 2 is going to be something else entirely.

The series chronicles the story of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they navigate a world overrun with zombies infected with a parasitic fungus — not to mention the ruthless vigilantes, mercenaries and cannibals just as desperate to survive.

In Season 2: “After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”

The series also stars Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley. New cast members for Season 2 include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, and Danny Ramirez as Manny.

Catherine O’Hara also guest stars in a secret role and Jeffrey Wright joined the cast taking on the role of Isaac.

The Last of Us returns in 2025.
