THE LAST OF US Showrunners Say Fans of the "Bill and Frank" Episode Are in for Another "Gorgeous" Episode in Season 2

We are just weeks away from the long-awaited second season of HBO’s dystopian sci-fi survival drama, The Last of Us. This show had so many interesting characters and interweaving stories, everyone is just excited to see what happens in this next chapter.

One stand-out episode of season 1 was episode 3, titled “Long, Long Time,” named after the beautiful song by Linda Ronstadt. The story followed a survivalist named Bill (Nick Offerman) and his relationship with Frank (Murray Bartlett) that tracks them from their meeting through the rest of their lives together.

Fans were really touched by this story and the beautiful performances from Offerman and Bartlett, and the series’ showrunners, Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, have taken note.

GamesRadar+ reports that Mazin addressed season 2 at a press conference recently, where he explained:

"One thing that Neil and I talked about was just making sure that we didn't just say, 'Oh, like the Bill and Frank episode. People really like that. Let's do a very special episode of The Last of Us season 2.'

“It just has to happen as it happens. But I will say that there is a gorgeous episode in the season, directed by Neil, that is different - it's not Bill and Frank, but it is, in its own way, its own thing, because it needed to be and just you wait. Just you wait."

It was reported earlier this month that Mazin and Druckmann were going to be giving the "Bill and Frank treatment" to Eugene Linden, a minor character from The Last of Us Part II that we only really hear about in passing.

The character will be played by The Sopranos and Memento star Joe Pantoliano. While we don't know if Eugene is featured in the episode that Mazin mentioned during the press conference, we can expect him to cross paths with Ellie (Bella Ramsey), Joel (Pedro Pascal), and new character Dina (Isabela Merced) - the latter of whom he has a close friendship within the game.

The Last of Us season 2 premieres on April 13th on HBO and Max.
