The Latest Unearthed Arcana for D&D Lets You Create Psychic-Based Characters
Dungeons & Dragons has released yet another Unearthed Arcana and this time, they’re looking at bringing psionics to the game. The new playtest material introduces a new subclass for Fighters, Rogues, and Wizards as well as new spells and feats that fit the theme.
The Psychic Warrior is kinda cool. It is able to use psychic powers to increase damage, reduce damage, or make life more difficult for enemies. For instance, the Agonizing Strikes feature can knock opponents prone and cause them to have disadvantage on ability checks. That can be really nice as being prone itself is not a good state to be in.
The Soulknife is the Rogue archetype and basically lets you to create Psylocke from X-Men. You can generate psychic blades on your arms and do all sorts of cool things like stun and deal 12d6 damage with the Rend Mind feature. In addition, the Psychic Veil feature makes going invisible a lot easier.
Psionics are the Wizard subclass and their biggest thing is their new Thought Form. This feature allows them to basically become pure energy and move around. This lets you cast spells without verbal and somatic components, plus, you don’t need material components that don’t have a gold cost. This is in addition to resistances to psychic, bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
The new spells all have to do with the theme of psychic abilities such as Id Insinuation that can deal 1d12 damage per turn as well as causing the target to be incapacitated (a very dangerous status). The new feats allow characters to be either telekinetic or telepathic to further go with the theme.
This is a pretty cool Unearthed Arcana in my opinion, and I can’t wait to see the next step for it. When do you think we’ll see it leave playtest?
