THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN Is Getting a New Film Adaptation For Hulu
Over the past several years, Twentieth Century Studios has been attempting to produce a new adaptation of Alan Moore and artist Kevin O’Neill’s acclaimed comic book series, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
The story centers on a team of literary heroes from Victorian England including Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Dracula character Mina Harker, and Allan Quatermain teaming to fight a common enemy which includes squaring off against Fu Manchu, Professor Moriarty and the alien invaders from H. G. Wells’ War of the Worlds.
The comic was great, the 2003 movie… not so much. The first movie was a big disappointment and a box office bomb. According to this new report, the creative team is “returning to the core comic books for their take.” I think there’s a great opportunity here to do something awesome with this property!
The project is being developed by screenwriter Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road, Red Sparrow) and the feature will premiere on Hulu. Don Murphy, who produced the original adaptation has returned to produce this new one.
I hope this time around the creative team actually captures the tone of the comic. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t get a great film out of this. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
