THE LEGEND OF AANG: THE LAST AIRBENDER Has Officially Wrapped Production and AVATAR Creator Says "It’s Awesome"

One of the creators behind Avatar: The Last Airbender has confirmed that the upcoming animated feature The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender has officially completed production.

It’s the first major milestone fans have heard directly from the creative team, and it suggests the long-awaited film is moving closer to release.

The update came from Bryan Konietzko, who co-created the original animated series alongside Michael DiMartino. Konietzko shared the news while responding to fan questions on social media, confirming that the film is finished and ready for audiences.

He wrote, “For the folks asking about the movie: all I can say at this point is it’s done, it’s awesome, and we can’t wait to share it with everyone.”

According to reports, members of the production team have already watched the completed movie, which means the project has moved beyond its main production phase as it heads toward release.

The film is being developed by Avatar Studios, the animation banner created to expand the Avatar universe with new series and films. Konietzko and DiMartino returned to the franchise through the studio to continue telling stories set in the beloved world they originally created for Nickelodeon.

The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender picks up after the events of the original series and follows Aang and his friends as adults. While story details are still being kept under wraps, the idea of revisiting Team Avatar later in life has been one of the most exciting aspects of the project for longtime fans.

The film is directed by Lauren Montgomery, who previously worked on several projects connected to the franchise. She also confirmed that production on the movie has wrapped, aligning with Konietzko’s update.

Paramount originally planned a theatrical release for the film, but the studio later adjusted its distribution strategy earlier this year. Instead of hitting theaters, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is now scheduled to premiere on Paramount+ sometime this fall. An exact release date hasn’t been announced yet.

The project is being produced by Avatar Studios alongside Paramount and Nickelodeon Movies, and the voice cast includes Eric Nam as Aang and Steven Yeun as Zuko. The cast also features Dave Bautista, Taika Waititi, and Ke Huy Quan, with several roles still being kept secret.

With production now complete and the creative team clearly excited about the final result, it shouldn’t be long before fans finally see what the next chapter of Aang’s story looks like.
