THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: LINK'S AWAKENING Is an Ideal Remake of a Classic Game

The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening recently got a remake on the Nintendo Switch, and I’m here to report that it is amazing! I have played the original Link’s Awakening for the Game Boy (although I never finished it because I was dumb and traded it), so I was excited for the remake to launch so that I could finally awaken the Wind Fish. Here are my thoughts.

The graphics are gorgeous. Everything looks fantastic and adorable. It really fits the old Game Boy aesthetic where things looked a little different from the console games. It’s also perfect since there are so many Super Mario characters in the game as well, such as the Chain Chomp, Yoshi, Shy Guy, Boo, and Goombas, to name a few. The only graphical thing that’s a little odd to me is that there’s a weird unfocused effect along the bottom and sometimes top edges of the screen. I believe this is intentional due to elements in the story, but it is a little weird.

Not only does the game look great, but it sounds great. One of the best parts of any Zelda game is the music and Link’s Awakening does not disappoint.

Another pro for the game is that it feels really quick. I’ll admit that I haven’t finished the game yet, but I have played for several hours and not once have I felt like anything was really tedious in the questing that has me thinking the game is going to take forever. The game has a nice pace to it.

Now, this game is not a direct copy of the original. There are some new things to it. For example, in the menu, there’s a Memories section that you can go to in order to remember where you left off and where you’re supposed to go for the main quest. Something like this is invaluable to me! Plus, I don’t think it detracts from the game. Also, there’s the Dungeon Creator which is basically a Zelda version of Super Mario Maker. As you progress through the game, you’ll be able to unlock more chambers to use as you create your own custom dungeons, and it’s a lot of fun. I hope that a more fleshed-out version of this could maybe come to light in the future.

I cannot think about any negative traits for Link’s Awakening. It is a phenomenal game that has had minor things added to it for an even better experience. If you enjoy Zelda games, why haven’t you bought this yet?
