THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Set Videos Reveal Link, Princess Zelda, and SEVERANCE Star Dichen Lachman
Production has officially kicked off on the live-action adaptation of The Legend of Zelda, and we’ve just gotten our first look at the film’s leads in action.
Set videos have surfaced from New Zealand showing Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as the heroic Link, Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda, and Dichen Lachman, known for her role in Severance, as a mysterious new character.
This live-action version of Nintendo’s iconic fantasy adventure is one of the most highly anticipated video game adaptations in development, and seeing these characters finally brought to life is pretty cool. They all look great in their roles!
The project was first announced in November 2023 and is being co-produced by Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, the powerhouse producer behind The Amazing Spider-Man. Sony Pictures Entertainment is teaming up with Nintendo to both finance and distribute the film.
The creative team behind the movie include director Wes Ball, fresh off Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, while Derek Connolly (Jurassic World) is writing the screenplay. That combination alone should give fans plenty of reason to get excited about the tone and scope of this adaptation.
Back when the film was first announced, Miyamoto shared a message with fans:
"I have been working on the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda for many years now with Avi Arad-san, who has produced many mega hit films," Miyamoto said in 2023.
"I have asked Avi-san to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production. It will take time until its completion, but I hope you look forward to seeing it.”
Details about the story and characters remain under wraps, but with its mix of beloved characters, stunning landscapes, and a strong creative team, The Legend of Zelda could end up being the epic fantasy film we’re all hoping for.
The Legend of Zelda arrives in theaters on May 7, 2027.
