The LEGO PlayStation Is Here and It Delivers Hardcore Nostalgia For ’90s Gamers
Remember how awesome the original PlayStation looked when you first set it up? Those polygon graphics were incredible, the games came on shiny CDs, and it was like the future in gaming was here!
Well, that futuristic console is now old enough to become a nostalgia-packed LEGO set.
LEGO and Sony are bringing the original PlayStation back as the LEGO PlayStation, a 1,911-piece recreation of the console that launched in 1994.
The finished build is close to 1:1 scale, so this isn't some tiny desktop interpretation of the classic machine. It's basically the PS1 you remember, except this time you have to assemble the thing yourself.
The set also includes a LEGO recreation of the original PlayStation controller, complete with that unmistakable gray design that existed before DualShock controllers, analog sticks, and increasingly complicated button layouts took over our lives.
LEGO has worked some fun interactive details into the console as well. The Power and Open buttons function, and opening the system reveals miniature gaming dioramas.
Inside you'll find scenes inspired by Gran Turismo and Ape Escape. The Gran Turismo section features tiny customizable cars, while the Ape Escape scene includes a little helmet-wearing monkey with a light that can be swapped between red and blue.
It's a clever way to make the build more than a brick recreation of an old piece of hardware. Those hidden details turn it into a tribute to the games and memories that made the PlayStation such a huge part of gaming history.
The LEGO PlayStation will cost $179.99 USD and launches October 1, 2026, through LEGO Insiders Early Access. Everyone else can pick it up beginning October 4 through LEGO.com and LEGO Stores.
Now excuse me while I go dig through a box somewhere and see if my old Final Fantasy VII save still exists.
