THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS Trailer: Fassbender and Vikander in a Heartwrenching Period Drama

Derek Cianfrance, the director who brought us Blue Valentine, is back to toy with our emotions yet again in The Light Between Oceans, his film adaptation of M.L. Stedman's best-selling novel. Michael Fassbender plays a lighthouse keeper who, along with his wife (Alicia Vikander), discovers a baby adrift at sea. They raise the little girl as their own, only to find out years later that her mother (Rachel Weisz) might still be alive.

This looks like the sort of classic studio dramas that we don't see very often anymore, and if this trailer is any indication, we may be talking more about this movie around this time next year when the Oscars roll around again.

The Light Between Oceans hits theaters on September 2.

From acclaimed director Derek Cianfrance, (BLUE VALENTINE, A PLACE BEYOND THE PINES), and based on the extraordinary best-selling novel from M.L Stedman, THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS, is a beautiful yet heart-breaking story of love and sacrifice.
