THE LION KING Comparison Videos Offer a Side-by-Side Look at the Original Film and the New One

Disney recently released the first teaser trailer for Jon Favreau’s The Lion King, and the fans seemed to love it. The movie looks visually awesome, and it looks like they are basically going to retell the same exact story with the same exact shots, but only this time you get to see it with photorealistic animals.

This is a technological feat, and it’s hard not to be impressed by what we saw in that new trailer. Now we have two videos to share with you that offer a side-by-side comparison of the original 1994 animated film and the upcoming 2018 CGI remake.

The first video comes from Madrid motion graphics designer Sowick, and the second one comes from IGN. They both have a different style, but they get the point across that the new The Lion King film wanted to capture the same magic that the first film did.

Here’s the synopsis:

From Disney Live Action, director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.

The all-star voice cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver was Zazu, and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa.

The Lion King roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.
