The Live-Action DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Series Will Be Developed by RED NOTICE Director Rawson Marshall Thurber
The director of the Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot heist action film Red Notice, Rawson Marshall Thurber, is set to write and direct the pilot episode of Entertainment One’s upcoming live-action Dungeons & Dragons series. He will also creatively oversee the entire series and executive produce.
It was originally reported that the series was being written and developed by Derek Kolstad, the creator and writer behind the John Wick franchise. This new report doesn’t mention his involvement with the show, so maybe that didn’t work out.
There aren't many details on the project yet, but it's been rumored that the story "might be" centered on a popular drow ranger character named Drizzt Do'Urden. It’s been speculated that the show could focus on "Drizzt's early life growing up in the drow city of Menzoberranzan, also known as the city of Spiders."
"Born" in the ‘80s, Drizzt is very much as relevant today as he was then and continues to be a hero for new and old fans discovering or rediscovering him. He may not have the biggest sword, but he does what is right, even when it is the hard choice.
The one-hour series will be one of the first projects in the Dungeons & Dragons TV universe that’s been in planning stages at eOne since the indie studio was acquired by Hasbro in 2020.
eOne recently finished production on an untitled Dungeons & Dragons feature film that was written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. The cast for the film includes Chris Pine, Regé-Jean Page, Michaelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant, Sophia Lillis, Jusice Smith, Daisy Head, and Chloe Coleman.
I’m excited about all of these D&D projects that are in development, and I can’t wait to see how they turn out!
