The Live-Action LADY AND THE TRAMP Film Will Not Feature "The Siamese Cat Song"
Disney is going to do their best to change some parts of their catalog to be less offensive. We already heard that they will not be putting Song of the South on their streaming service Disney+ and they plan to edit the crows from Dumbo when that hits the service.
Now, they’re addressing a part of Lady and the Tramp. “The Siamese Cat Song” for the animated version of the film was recorded by Peggy Lee for the two Siameses cats, Si and Am. Well, it turns out that people see these cats as “a cringe-worthy depiction of Asian culture,” and this has led Disney to make some changes for the live-action version of Lady and the Tramp.
In the upcoming live-action version, there will be a new song by Janelle Monae, and the pair of cats will reportedly not be Siamese cats. Kaylin Frank from Disney said:
I don’t think this is a great loss, personally. Are you excited, upset, or indifferent to Disney “reinventing” the song and replacing the cats?
Lady and the Tramp will launch on Disney+ soon after the service launches this November.
