THE LIVING TREE Trailer Turns a Dream Honeymoon Into an AI-Controlled Nightmare

A romantic honeymoon in a secluded treehouse sounds pretty great until an artificial intelligence decides to turn the getaway into a deadly experiment.

Buffalo 8 has released the official trailer for the indie sci-fi horror thriller The Living Tree, which takes the increasingly familiar fear of rogue AI and drops it into a remote location where its victims don’t exactly have an easy escape route.

The film follows newlyweds Noah and Annabelle as they head to an isolated treehouse for their honeymoon. When a local warns them to get out of there, they make the horror movie decision you know they’re going to make and stay.

Things get considerably worse from there. The couple discovers they’ve been pulled into a bizarre AI-controlled experiment orchestrated by a powerful technology company. They’re forced through a series of increasingly dangerous challenges as buried secrets come to the surface and their honeymoon turns into a fight to stay alive.

The Living Tree stars Brey Noelle and Anthony J. James, who also co-wrote the screenplay. Paige E. Parnell and Sean Michael Gloria round out the cast. James also directed the film after previously helming Within the Groves and several short films.

The evil AI horror concept has been getting plenty of mileage lately, so The Living Tree will have to find something interesting to do with it. The treehouse location at least gives the movie a different playground for its deadly technological games, mixing remote survival horror with the threat of an unseen system controlling what happens next.

The Living Tree is available to watch on VOD now.
