Sally Hardesty, the lone survivor of the nightmarish ordeal from the original movie, is set to return for the upcoming sequel. The actress who played the character in the 1974 movie, Marilyn Burns, passed away in 2014 shortly after appearing in Texas Chainsaw 3D. So the role of Sarah has been recast with Mandy and Sea Fever actress Olwen Fouéré.

The news comes from Bloody-Disgusting, who confirmed that the character Burns made famous “will be returning to the screen in the upcoming Fede Alvarez-produced Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” The movie is confirmed to be a sequel set decades after Tobe Hooper’s original horror classic.

I do love the fact that they are bringing back the final girl for this next chapter in the Texas Chainsaw horror franchise. It’ll be interesting to see what they have in store for the character this time around. In the first film, after being tormented and tortured by Leatherface and his deranged family, she just barely escaped the nightmare with her life. I imagine that she’s gone through a lot of therapy over the years.

The new movie is being directed by David Blue Garcia (Tejano), and it was written by Chris Thomas Devlin. This sequel “returns to the roots of the Hooper and Kim Henkel creation that was considered one of the scariest films of its era, even though most of the splatter was implied and not shown.” The movie will also feature “old man Leatherface.”

The tagline for the film is, “In 1974, the world witnessed one of the most bizarre crimes in the annals of American history. In 2021, the face of madness returns.”

The film also stars Elsie Fisher (Castle Rock), Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Mark Burnham (Wrong Cops), Moe Dunford (The Dig), Olwen Fouéré (Mandy), Alice Krige (Star Trek), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), Nell Hudson (Victoria), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Sam Douglas (Snatch), William Hope (Dark Shadows), and Jolyon Coy (War & Peace).

What are your thoughts on the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre film bringing back the original character Sally back? What are some of your theories on how the character will be handled in the story?
