THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Is a Stunning Epic Fantasy Series! What Did You Think!?
I’ve been a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s stories ever since I first read The Hobbit when I was a kid. I love the world of Middle-Earth that he created. I’m a fan of the original animated film adaptations of his work, and Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy are three of my favorite films ever made. Needless to say, when I heard that Amazon was producing an epic fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, that would tell stories set in the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings, how could I not be excited!?
The trailers released for the series teased something incredibly epic and incredible. My excitement for this show has been busting and the first two episodes have finally dropped on Prime Video for the fans to watch! I was not one of the lucky few to get a media screening, so I excitedly jumped in and started watching as soon as I could and I’m happy to say that I absolutely freakin’ love what this series delivers!
Creators and showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have made something amazing, something that fans of Tolkien can love and appreciate. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen great fantasy in film or TV, and the fantasy elements of this series hit hard as hell. I’ve been waiting for a fantasy project like this for a long time and it does everything right!
Everything about this series is beautifully crafted! As you know, this series had a massive budget and you can see that it actually went into this production to bring this story to life. The designs, the settings, the costumes, props, weapons, makeup, CGI, musical score and most importantly, the story. It’s all top-notch work and I applaud the production crew for making a visually stunning series with a great story! I was completely engulfed and in awe as I watched the story play out in these first two episodes.
This series is truly a cinematic experience and I wish that we could watch every episode in a theater on a big screen! It’s almost a disservice to the show that we have to watch it on TV. But, it’s better to experience it this way than to not experience it at all, so I’ll happily take it! It’s just such an amazing viewing experience and I’m 100% invested in the story that it’s telling, and it’s one of the most beautiful shows I’ve ever watched on TV. This is also one of those stories that make me feel all the emotions!
The casting in this series is also perfect, but I specifically want to point out Morfydd Clark, who plays Galadriel. She’s awesome in the role, and one of my favorite parts of the show. She just completely owns this character and makes it her own, and she is a total badass! I love how she is able to say so much in those eyes of hers. It’s going to be a pleasure watching her story arc play out over the course of the series.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power “is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien's pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”
It’s been explained that the Second Age is the great unfilmed story in Tolkien's entire legendarium, with the forging of the rings and the Last Alliance, and we felt that that was the story that deserved to be told.”
That story is being told now, and so far, it’s everything that I hoped it would be! It does such a wonderful job of paying homage to The Lord of the Rings, while also enriching the history of Middle-Earth. I love what I’ve seen from this show so far and I’m so stoked about what is to come!
What did you all think about the first two episodes of the series?
